Stake out to End Hunger – One Month of Great Steak for a good Cause

Ossawippi Express: The Sharing Place Food Bank and The Ossawippi Express in Orillia are working in partnership to present “Stake out to End hunger” A Month Long event will run from Wednesday, April1 to Thursday, April 30th, 2009.

Residents and visitors to the area will have the opportunity to experience a Great
8 oz New York Striploin Steak Dinner while helping a good organization like the Sharing Place food Bank. Seeing the need to help out in tough economic times the Ossawippi Express dining felt compelled with a need to help raise funds for the Food bank and plan to make this an annual event at the restaurant.
A mouth-watering 8oz “AAA” New York striploin steak dinner with fresh vegetables and parmesan garlic mashed potato, will be offered at the restaurant for the amazing price of $19.50 with $2.00 from the sale of each dinner being donated back to the Sharing Place food bank, beverages ,taxes ,and gratuities will be extra.

“We are pleased to be working with Sharing Place food Bank in the development of this initiative”, says Terry McNaughton of Ossawippi Express. “It is an opportunity to encourage new and existing patrons to experience a great Steak while helping a terrific organization that helps so many throughout the year.”
The Sharing Place Food Bank is the Orillia area’s largest and busiest food bank. A member of the Ontario Association of Food Banks, we have been operating since 1988. In the past 12 months, our volunteers have provided needed, nutritious food to approximately 10,000 people of all ages, from infants and toddlers to disabled seniors.
Sad to say, we are visited by many young families each week. Easily, one-third of our patrons are children! Though some people’s must return to the food bank month after month, a notable number of those who visit us once or twice are able to improve their living circumstances, and we never see them again.
The Sharing Place provides each patron with a week’s worth of food, and asks them not to return for another month. While a food bank hamper, typically, consists of non-perishable basics, we also provide frozen ground beef to those who wish it.
During the past year, we launched a Fresh Produce Program that means each client is offered a modest selection of fresh vegetables and fruit with every visit. Donations earmarked for the Fresh Produce Program are welcome.
The Orillia-area community is very supportive of The Sharing Place, and we continue to be grateful for the generous donations of food and funds that enable us to carry on. Approximately 80% of the food that we distribute to our patrons is food that we purchase (always at discount prices), so while gifts of non-perishable food are always helpful, financial donations are especially welcome.
Needless to say, we would prefer that food banks everywhere, including The Sharing Place, could shut their doors forever, secure in the knowledge that they are no longer needed; unfortunately, that blessed day does not appear to be near.
